Kenneth is an Air Tactical Officer and chief instructor/check airman for the Aerial Supervision Module program with the U.S.D.I. Bureau of Land Management. Previously he was a hotshot and smokejumper, spending 16 years fighting fire all over the United States and Canada. A lifelong runner, Ken started running long distance events affter recovering from multiple back surgeries; he discovered that endurance events were his passion. Since 2004, Ken has run over 10 marathons,in several states all over the U.S. Locally, Ken participates in the Leona Divide 50 mile ultramarathon on the Pacific Crest Trail and the Calico Ghost Town 50K. In 2005 while running 40 miles to celebrate his 40th birthday, Ken was inspired to raise money and awareness for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. The WFF supports the families of firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty. These events included a 52 mile run in 2005 and a 104 mile run in 2006 which raised over $80,000 and brought together dozens of firefighters and crews from the U.S. Forest Service, B.L.M., Los Angeles County Fire Dept. and U.S. Air Force who ran with Ken and provided logistical support. Ken has also run several multi-day, self-supported expedition races. In 2007 he ran Racing the Planet’s Sahara Race in Egypt, raising another $25,000 for the WFF. In 2008, he ran the Gobi March in China and in 2009 participated in Beyond Racing the Planet Namibia. Ken’s Schedule for 2009 and 2010 includes at least 4 marathons with wife, Wendy, as well as the Atacama Crossing in March, RTP Australia in April and The Last Desert (Antarctica) in Nov, 2010.
