I’m from Holland, but my entire education has been in the English system. My hobbies are tennis, trail-running, rowing and cooking!! At the moment i am studying the IB programme, my subjects are spanish, english, maths, biology, chemistry and history - I prefer to have options for university. My personal interests are travel, and doing things which appear ridiculous, unpractical or impossible - Im working on that list right now! My passion with endurance events lies in two things, trying to get outdoors as much as possible, and pushing myself beyond the limits. In life i was always told what i couldn’t do, endurance athletes are constantly breaking boundaries, doing things that seem impossible. For me, being an endurance athlete is doing things no one thinks is possible whether its because of location, time or weather. I just want to get out there and give it a shot.
Accomplishments:
Though this section is pretty small, ive only just introduced myself to ‘real’ endurance events. I’m hoping to achieve for myself as much as i can in the next year.
Rowing - My 1st ‘endurance’ sport
Won the National HK champions for 16 under Double Scull event and 14 Under Single Scull Event.
Champion of Pangbourne Sculls - 16 under.
when attending college in the UK, rowed number 6 with the 2nd eight, achieved 4th in Britain (Head of the Schools at Hammersmith, London) Trained with 1st 8 but was put out because of a back injury Planned and did WWAP 2009 - an event around 532 kms (without topographical distance) across the Base of England from Land’s End to Pangbourne (just west of Reading). Averaged 42 Km’s per day, 10 hours walking per day...
Ran support for early stages of Maclehose for Team Patagonia (Rowley Aird’s team) Won the 4 peaks race HK (a two day race across HK to it's highest peaks on each it's islands)
School
Attended school in hong kong up to y9 at island school. Went to England and attended Pangbourne College for two years on an all-round scholarship. Returned to HK and currently am at United World College Li Po Chun.
2010 aims
Complete WWAP - HK challenge (150 km’s across HK by trail running, ocean rowing and open water swimming.)
3 peaks race in Britain
Complete Greenpower in a good time (mountain marathon) Run the Maclehose (100 km mountain marathon) sub-17 hours Run the Maclehose unsupported
Future Aspirations
I want to apply to Oxford for history or medicine (i know, the variety is appalling!), but i am sure that i want to join the Royal Marines, hopefully as an officer. I do have a set of challenges that i want to accomplish in the next 5 years or so, they may be a little ambitious, but that’s what so great about them!
Complete an Iron man under the age of 18 Run the Maclehose unsupported - a dream ive had for a couple of years now!
Run the three most famous trails in HK tail to tail in 48 hours: the Maclehose, the Wilson and the Lantau trails. (i have yet to plan this one, it will happen though!) Desert racing is probably the most difficult style of racing which is what makes it attractive to me. I’m also enthralled by the vastness of it all. So, to be the youngest person to do all four races in ‘racing the planet’. That would be a dream come true..
I’ve always had a love for mountains, so i’d like summit K2, no small thing i know!
